Leave Lisbon behind to pay a visit to Fatima convent, one of the most important sanctuaries in Portugal. Drive through the lovely countryside to this massive pilgrimage site. Visit the Sanctuary Square and the shrine itself where your guide will tell you about how the Virgin appeared to two children with prophecies. Later visit the Chapel of Apparitions. As you return to Lisbon, stop in Batalha to see the heavily decorated Gothic and Manuelino Monastery. Batalha is a good spot to have your guide recommend a local restaurant for lunch. Try cod, goat cheese and green wine.
