“If you don’t want to get dusty, don’t go into the countryside.” – old Catalan saying
Arrive at El Prat airport and meet your driver as you leave customs. Drop your suitcases at
the hotel and explore the beauty of Barcelona on a complete visit of the exquisite Catalonian
city. The guided tour will show you the city’s most iconic sights, beginning with a panoramic
tour of the Passeig de Gracia Boulevard, past Parc Güell, both Gaudí houses, las Ramblas
and the Born district. Stop at the Sagrada Familia and the Gaudí Houses to get a better look
at the inside of these fabulously designed buildings. Finish the day with a tapas tour
through the Gothic Quarters. Enter Boquería Market to see fresh vegetables, fruit, meat,
fish, cheese, honey, olives and wine all on display. As you learn about the legends and
hidden symbols in the Barri Gotic, stop in classic taverns for tapas paired with wine and
craft beer.
Catch the cable car from Port Vell up to Montjuic. Spend the morning on your own visiting
this monumental area with Barcelona’s best museums and great views of the city. Just
before lunch, meet your chef in the Gothic Quarters to learn about Spanish and Catalan
cuisine. Slice, dice, sizzle and bake your own lunch paired with local Penedés wines. In the
evening, don’t miss out on the Magic Fountain light and water show.
Catch the AVE to Girona. Here rent a car and check in at your hotel. We’ll have a guide
waiting to take you on a tour of Girona. This city during the Middle Ages was a very
important Jewish center and it still has the best preserved and most important Jewish
quarter in Spain. From its main street, once a Roman Road, walk beneath archways and
between stone buildings that take you back in time. Also visit Passeig de la Muralla. Spend
the afternoon on the beach at Cala Montgo.
Drive with your guide to the pretty medieval village of Besalu. Begin your tour at the 12th
century mikvah (ritual Jewish bath), one of the only three from the same period that have
been kept in Europe. See the covered bridge, old town and the castle. Return to Girona in
time for lunch. Spend the afternoon on the beach at Costa Brava. We’ll have an early evening winery visit
to Mas Molla reserved for you.
Drive north along the rugged Costa Brava to Cap de Creus and Port Lligat. Visit the tiny
fishing village on your own. We’ll have Dali house tickets reserved for you. Spend the
afternoon on the beach. Continue to your hotel in Olot in the evening.
Wake up before the sunrise and drive to Olot Volcanic Park. Meet your balloon pilot for a
sunrise flight over the ancient volcanoes. Enjoy a much-deserved country breakfast when
you land. Later, join your guide for a hike from the medieval town of Rupit. Don’t miss the
chance to see the local castle and Sant Joan de Fabregas Hermitage! Your guide will take
you to Salt de Sallent, an 80-meter waterfall in the middle of a forest. 10.5 km medium
difficulty hike.
Drive to L’Esquirol, once known for it’s witch hunts. Meet your guide at the church. Walk
through the forest to Bertrana Mill Bridge, where magical creatures like nymphs or gnomes
once lived. Continue through countryside to an abandoned Romanic church, where legends
say demons once helped to harvest crops. The last stop will allow for a quick swim at
Demon Gorge, a seemingly bottomless pool. 8.6 km medium difficulty hike. Take a break
for lunch before your afternoon hike in Tavertet. This route will take you to several
Romanic monuments – a style very popular in northern Spain during feudal times. Begin
at the 11th century church of Sant Cristofol. Climb up Puig de la Força to the ruins of Cornil
Castle. Your guide will tell you the legend of the tyrant who once lived here. In the evening,
drive back along Costa Brava to Barcelona in time to go to Tablao Flamenco Cordobés for a flamenco show.
Drive yourself to the airport and catch a flight home.
